Fett had just finished getting the sand out of his jetpack when he got the alarm Slave 1 was coming out of hyperspace. He set it back down and headed up into the cockpit. Solita was asleep, her head over the back of the chair, snoring. Fett smirked behind his helmet. He took a seat and secured the crash webbing. It was going to be a rough ride. The ship came out of hyperspace with a jerk and a groan of metal. The groan woke Solita who yelled, "I didn't do it, officer!" Slave 1's frame shuddered. Sluis Van appeared in the viewport. The shuddering came to a stop and Fett released the breath he'd been holding. "I'm surprised we're still in one piece," Solita said looking around.
"Just barely," Fett thought to himself. They probably wouldn't last long in a fight. He didn't need something like Cradossk or his bonehead son jumping them. Maybe a few minutes until Slave 1 blew...He hoped it wouldn’t come to that.
Solita glanced over at Fett, who didn’t reply. Her gaze fell on the home planet of Sluissi. Round, like most planets. There were a few patches of green and blue from forests and oceans and brown, black, and grey patches from cities, towns, and ship yards. She watched the planet draw closer, bored. Then, out of the corner of her eye, she noticed another ship coming towards them. Straight towards them. "Hey, Fett. Maybe it's just me, but I think that ship there is going to attack us," she said, nodding in the direction of the ship. Fett looked up from the ship readouts and she barely caught an angry intake of breath. It was the Hound's Tooth, signature ship of Bossk.
"Bossk," he hissed.
"Who?"
"Cradossk's son."
"Cradossk that tried to blow us up?" Fett nodded. He was about ready to blow. First, it Kheefa trying to cheat him out of his pay, then Solita showed up. Then Cradossk attacked. Now, Bossk shows up. If he were someone else, he'd have begun crying. But he wasn't "someone else".
"Funny meeting you here, Fett," Bossk's voice crackled over the comm. Fett leered behind his helmet.
"Go away, Bossk. I don't want to fight."
"I don't care! You've humiliated my father so many times I can't even count!"
"You can count?" There was some angry spluttering on the other line. "And since when did you start caring about what happens to your father?" Fett replied. "You'll probably kill him yourself sooner or later."
"I-" Bossk began.
"I don't care. Go find something to mangle," Fett interrupted. He ended to conversation by turning off the comm. He skimmed over the weapons stats and pushed the thrusters a little harder.
"Aren't you gonna fight him?" Solita asked.
"No. I don't want to risk it." Laser cannon fire struck Slave 1 suddenly.
"Well, you might want to dodge his shots!" Solita yelled. Fett put Slave 1 into a barrel roll to dodge the shots. He fired a few return shots as they flew past Bossk. Fett spun the ship around, a proton torpedo just missing them. His fingers flying over the console, Fett fired a missile at the Hound's Tooth. It struck and as they made another pass on Bossk, he released two seismic charges and then gunned the thrusters to dodge the charge going off. An alarm went off as a small plume of smoke filed into the cockpit. After the charges wore off, Fett turned back towards the planet checking Bossk's ship as they went by. The Hound's Tooth was floating in space, totally disabled. Fett turned the comm unit back on.
"Here's a warning. Don't mess with me, Bossk," Fett said. He turned it back off.
"You know we're on fire right?" Solita asked as some more smoke came into the cockpit. Boba looked at her.
"Yes. I know." Solita grinned nervously.
"Right."
Landing was precarious. Fett eased Slave 1 down into one of the ship yards. Solita watched him take off he crash webbing and leave the cockpit. "I'll be back," he said.
"I'll bet," she thought. Fett was met out on the landing pad by a 3D-4X administrative droid.
"Can I help you, sir?" it asked.
"Bring me Labb Nogard. Tell him Boba Fett's here and I don't have all day," Fett replied.
"I shall, sir." The droid turned and headed back towards the workshop. Fett turned and walked back to Slave 1 to take a damage survey. First he scanned the outside. There were dents and scratches, a fist sized hole that was inches away from penetrating the hull, and of course, the blown-out thruster. Then he headed into the ship. Melted power conduits and a number of busted machinery he couldn’t he even count. He hadn't expected this much damage. It was going to cost a lot, especially with the Labb doing that job. He shook his head and sighed. This had to be one of his rare bad days. Not since the Genosis incident, the time he got a head cold, and the deal with General Grievous had there been a bad day in his life. He climbed back up into the cockpit and sat down in the pilot's chair.
"So how long is this going to take? A few months? Years? Did you neglect the fact that Sluissi take forever to fix things?!" Solita cried.
"No, I didn't. I know a Sluissi who can do this job in at least 24 hours, maximum a day and a half."
"Incoming, coded transmission," a cool, computerized voice said.
"Decode and play," Fett replied. The face of a Bothan came up, fuzzy and scattered in the transmission.
"Boba Fett, greetings. I am Borsk Fey'lya and I have a job for you." A profile picture of another Bothan came up. "This spy, Oren Eos'in has been double crossing me and I want you to bring him to me. Dead. He was last seen on Sluis Van. Armed and dangerous. Reward is 20,000 credits." Then Borsk's face came back up with a smirk on it. "Contact me when you get him. I look forward to seeing you victorious." Then it ended.
"That's funny! We're on Sluis Van!" Solita said with a grin. Fett rolled his eyes. Females. He logged the description into his helmet, then got up and headed down into the hold to re-assemble his weaponry. He finished a few minutes later and headed back up into the cockpit.
"Fett! Boba Fett? I'm here!" a voice cried out from outside the ship when Fett got about halfway up the ladder.
"That'll be Labb," Fett said, coming up into the cockpit. "If I untie you, will you stay here and not try anything stupid?" he asked Solita. Solita shrugged.
"That depends."
"Don't be smart with me. You'll do as you're told." He took of the crash webbing, and untied her. She rubbed her arm where the rope had cut into it. She followed him out of the cockpit and onto the landing pad where the Sluissi, Labb was waiting. Solita had heard of the Sluissi from her mother but she had never seen one. They were reptilian creatures. The top half of the Sluissi body is a lot like a human's, with two arms and four fingered hands, the fourth being an opposable digit. The bottom half of the body is like that of a snake--with a long singular tail. They have round black eyes and long, swooping hoodlike fold of skin on the back of the head. Their arms have extra, winglike extensions of skin that apparently help move when they re flat on the ground. To complete it all, they have forked tongues that, as with most reptiles, are used for sense of smell.
This particular Sluissi had sandy, scaled skin and carried a bag of tools over its shoulder. A service droid was behind it pulling a box on repulsor lifts filled with parts. Labb and Fett shook hands. "It's been a while, Fett," Labb said with what could be determined as a grin.
"I need my ship fixed, refueled, and restocked by tomorrow."
"Show her to me." Fett led Labb over to Slave 1 handed him a list he'd made of the damage. After looking over the ship and the list, the Sluissi shook his head with a sigh. "Dang, Fett." He looked up at the bounty hunter. "Dang. I can't make you any promises. How'd she get so bad?"
"Long story," Fett replied with a leer. "Can you fix her?"
"That's my job. It'll get done." Labb twirled a wrench in his hand.
"Right. Stay true to your reputation and get it fixed. She'll be staying here to watch over Slave 1," he said jabbing his thumb at Solita.
"What?" Solita cried
"You're staying here," Fett replied over his shoulder as he headed for the main building.
"I thought I was going with you!" He came to a stop and turned around.
"What gave you that idea? You'll stay here." Solita gritted her teeth at Fett's back as he walked off. Labb chuckled and slid over to Slave 1 to begin working, the service droid behind him.
"You coming, girl?" he asked over his shoulder. Solita crossed her arms over her chest and followed. She'd find a way to get away from this Sluissi and go after Fett. "So, how'd you end with the likes of that guy?" Labb asked as he looked for a tool to begin patching up the fist sized hole. "Hmm?" He turned around to find her gone.
