Chapter One: A Bounty and a Meeting With Xizor

By Chrysta Fett

The twin suns of Tatooine burned down upon the Dune Sea.  Heat waves shimmered over the sands.  From above, the Sea of sand stretched for miles around.  But from the ground, it never ended.  Lob Fortuna ran.  He glanced over his shoulder to see if his messenger of death was still following him.  Nothing came to sight.  He stopped and walked backwards to make sure.  Still, nothing came to sight.  A nervous smile came to his flushed face and he turned back around.  However, when he did, he found the bounty hunter sitting astride a swoop bike parked at the top of the dune in front of Fortuna.  The sun glanced off his dark T-shaped visor.  The man was a walking arsenal of weapons, visible and hidden.  Fortuna stumbled backwards in terror.  "Boba Fett.  Don't kill me, Fett!  Please!  I'm worth more alive!"  The bounty hunter didn't reply as he got off the swoop.  The Twi'lek scrambled backwards in the sand to get away.

"Too bad you're wanted dead."  The Twi'lek's eyes widened in panic as Fett's blaster rifle sighted on his forehead.  The shot rang out unheard across the desert.  Fett raised his rifle upright and punched a few buttons on his forearm mounted data screen to call his ship, the Slave 1.  Lob Fortuna was wanted by a Shell Hutt named Kheefa.  Lob, after the murder of his employer, a Bonthan crime lord, left for Tatooine, hoping to get back up with his clansmen Bib Fortuna.  Finding him at Jabba the Hutt’s side, Lob went out into the galaxy searching for a job.  He was hired by an ex-Imperial officer to spy on Kheefa’s sister, Drazza.  She owed him money.  The Twi'lek took the job and proceeded to spy on Kheefa's sister without Drazza knowing for some time.  Kheefa found out, however and hired Boba Fett to do the job for 100,000 and dead on delivery.  At first, Kheefa offered 90,00 then Fett demanded 150,000.  They haggled back and forth until the sum of 100,000 credits was agreed on.  Still, he knew that the Hutt would be reluctant to give up that much.  He'd more than likely want to take off a couple thousand or ten thousand.  Hutts were like that.

Slave 1 touched down in a flurry of sand and the loading ramp opened up.  He dragged the body into the ship, laid it next to the holding cage and went back out to return the stolen swoop.  He heard the loading ramp close and then activated the security system.  He started up the swoop and sped off towards Mos Eisley, leaving Slave 1 parked on the sands.  Unknown to Fett, another bounty was being placed.  On him.

"Your visitor has arrived, my lord," the guard said with a bow to the figure standing in front of the only window in the room.  A violet eye glanced over the figure's shoulder.

"Send her in."  The guard bowed again and left the room, glad to leave.  The menacing gaze of the  Dark Prince had given him chills.  Xizor turned back to the window.  His suite in the Upper City of Couroscant was in one of the tallest buildings in the whole city.  It overlooked everything else.  The suite gave Xizor height advantage over his adversaries.  He saw every ship that came and went on his wing of the building.  He heard the door behind him slide open.

"You rang, Oh Glorious One?" a sarcastic female voice said.  Xizor arched an eyebrow as he turned around, and unpleasant look on his reptilian face.

"Yes.  Unfortunately, but yes.  Please, sit down."  He gestured to a chair that sat a few feet away from the window.  He also took a seat on the couch that was sitting with its back to and against the window.  He violet gaze took in the female bounty hunter.  "I have a special job for you.  It will be challenging, for the prey I'm sending you after will not go willingly."

"Let's get to the point, Xizor.  Who is it you want me to kill?" she asked impatiently, flicking a strand of lavender hair from her dark eyes.  The Falleen leaned back in his seat and steepled his fingers.  An ominous smile spread across his face and a devious light crept into his eyes.

"Boba Fett.  Dead or alive, 700,000 credits."  The bounty hunter had a look mixed between incredulity and shock.

"Boba Fett?  Are you crazy?!  You're sending me after the most dangerous bounty hunter in the galaxy!"

"I know.  Though you are still somewhat new the bounty hunting business, I can tell you have the potential to become the best."

"Make it a million and I'll do it."  That statement almost caught Xizor by surprise.

"A bit staggering, don't you think?"

"Not for that barve," she replied with a shake of her head, "I've heard of a bounty that was five million.  And with an organization like the Black Sun behind you, I don’t see why you wouldn't be able to pay me."  Xizor chuckled.  "Or, I could walk out that door and leave you to find someone crazier to hunt down Fett."  This bounty hunter, she wasn't kidding.  Xizor cleared his throat.

"Fine.  One million, and I'll pay you extra if you bring him alive."

"They always say that.  You've just hired yourself a bounty hunter."  They both stood at the same time and shook hands, hers fine-boned, small, and gloved; his reptilian and big enough for hers to fit in.

"I look forward to hearing your success story."
